Video Package on Jeff Ziemba
St. Mark's QB Jeff Ziemba is our WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Jeff threw 4 touchdowns while leading the undefeated Spartans to a come-from-behind
37-34 victory over Dover on the road Friday Night.
He threw a clutch touchdown pass late in the 3rd quarter that turned the game around.
"I remember looking to see which receiver to throw to. Brian is one of my better
receivers anyways so I just gave him the ball, knowing he would catch it. I just
remember staying relaxed and throwing it in there."
Like many football players, Jeff's gridiron career started early.
"My dad always brought me to football games, he started having a catch with me when I
was 6. He put me on my first football team in the N.C.C.F.L, and I got started there."
Ziemba has the Spartans sitting at 5-0 while accounting for 9 touchdowns, 8 in the
air and 1 on the ground, what attributes does Jeff say he brings to the table.
"Staying confident and just taking charge and relaxing in the pocket and trusting
your teammates knowing they will do stuff for them if you're there for them."
The Spartans will need Ziemba at his best when they face St. E's and bitter rival
Salesianum at the end of the year, but Ziemba says they're focused on the short-term
"Just get better each week, and just concentrating on each game every week. Not
looking forward to the week ahead, just concentrating on this week."
Jeff and the Spartans face winless Christiana this weekend.
