St. Mark's running back and linebacker Jabre Lolley is this week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Jabre scored two rushing touchdowns and intercepted a pass in the Spartans 24-10
victory over rival Salesianum in the Semifinals of the state football tournament Friday.
Lolley's interception came with the Sals trying to drive down 7 points. How'd he
make the key pick?
"I just stayed in there, focused, and read the quarterback's eye. He took me right
to the wide receiver. I just caught it and tried to get as much yardage as I could."
He capped off that drive with a touchdown to put the Spartans up 14, but which did he
think was the bigger play, the interception or the touchdown?
"Making the interception because it felt like by doing that it makes us a little more
comfortable and not as nervous as we were. Because the touchdown was good, but the
interception changed the game."
Offensively, Jabre says his fast running style resembles Tennessee Titans running
back Chris Johnson, but Lolley quickly gives credit to the people who make his and his
backfield teammates' runs possible.
"Our offensive line because they block so well for us. We just find the holes they
open up for us. We just run real strong, and we're all good backs."
St. Mark's will go for a perfect 12-0 season when they face Middletown in the
championship game Saturday Night. Jabre thinks the pressure is squarely on Middletown.
"They're going to try to come out and do their best against us. They're going to be
nervous and probably trying to stop us from doing what we're focused on doing."
