VIDEO: Interview with Lauren Kerrigan
Wilmington Friends volleyball setter Lauren Kerrigan is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Kerrigan had 26 assists and 7 kills in the Quakers' 3 sets to 2 victory over St. Mark's last week. After losing twice to the Spartans last year, Lauren says revenge was on her team's mind.
"We had lost pretty badly (in the state semifinals). This win meant a lot, knowing we can now beat a team like that we have a lot of confidence and we're looking forward to playing Archmere (Saturday)."
Lauren also had 3 aces, 3 blocks, and 7 digs to fill a crowded box score against St. Mark's. I asked Lauren if there's any skill she prefers over the others.
"It's always nice knowing I'm part of having other people get a kill. I have always loved hitting, I used to be a middle (hitter) when I was younger, but I think setting is what I love to do."
Lauren says she's received a lot of help from head coach Barb Trinsey and her sister Kristi.
"I started in 6th grade club. I know that the Trinseys have always been my coaches. I was originally a middle, and my sister always played volleyball, so I kind of took after her a little."
As for college, Lauren is just a junior so her school options are open, but says she has an interest in marine biology.
"I always loved going to Disney World and seeing people interact with those marine animals, so it kind of intrigued me."
