St. Mark's Field Hockey goalie Joelle Prettyman is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.

Joelle made 18 saves in the Spartans' 3-1 victory over Tower Hill last week. She told me what was going through her mind in those final anxious moments.

"If I let one in we have a chance of losing. So, I have to be on my game and stop anything that comes at me."

The win over Tower Hill was the first in the Spartan program's history. Joelle says the win was a team effort, especially the defensive squad in front of her.

"They should get more credit. Honestly, a girl on my team Maggie (Gregory) had an on the line save in the Tower Hill game and she should get a lot of credit for that one because that could have been a goal. It was awesome."

Joelle is just part of a pretty good field hockey family. Her sister Kasey is now playing at the University of Delaware.

"I've learned a lot from her, she works really, really hard. Before she went to college she used to shoot a lot on me because she's a forward, so I'd always practice with her."

As for life after St. Mark's, Joelle isn't sure where she wants to go to school, but knows she wants to get into nursing for a special family reason.

"When I was younger, my grandfather was sick all the time and I used to help him out with my grandma."
