| VIDEO: Video Profile of Nick Hainsworth | St. Georges Tech pitcher Nick Hainsworth is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
Nick scattered 6 hits and 2 runs in the Hawks' 4-2 season opening win over Appoquinimink.
Hainsworth said he was glad to get his season debut out of the way.
"It felt good. I was anxious for it all off-season. I was rusty out there, but it felt good to be out there."
The 2nd-team all-state pitcher says his pitching career began at a young age for a specific reason.
"I started pitching when I was 8 years old. Pretty much I just like being in control of the game."
Despite Nick Hainsworth's pitching prowess, he says his baseball role model is actually a shortstop.
"Derek Jeter. He's always been since I was little. I try to base my game off of him, he's not really a pitcher, but he's a great leader."
In terms of pitching goals, Hainsworth says he tries to emulate 2 of the Phillies' stars.
"Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee. They're big strike throwers, they always get ahead of their hitters and throw a low amount of pitches every game."
