| VIDEO: Profile of Nicole Maher | Caravel softball shortstop Nicole Maher is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Nicole started the season 8-for-11 at the plate during the Buccaneers season-opening 3-game winning streak.
The senior has moved from 9th to 6th in the lineup, and with it, Nicole says she has more responsibility.
"I feel like I have a bigger job to do to move the runners and get a good hit to score them to help get more runs and win."
Caravel has won the last 2 state softball titles, what has made the Bucs so strong?
"We're a hard working team. We always stick with each other and keep our heads up and help each other on and off the field no matter what happens."
I asked Nicole, who started playing softball at age 10, what her favorite memory on the diamond was.
"Winning the state championship last year. We did a team effort and all hit the ball, I love being around these type of people."
Nicole says she isn't sure whether she wants to major in elementary education or biology when she reaches college.
"I've been to physical therapy once before, and I love it. I love working with people and helping them out."
