VIDEO: Interview with Courtney MacDonald
A.I. DuPont volleyball player Courtney MacDonald is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
Courtney had 30 digs and 9 kills in the Tigers' 3 sets to 2 victory over Wilmington Friends last week.
Friends' defeated A.I. in both the first and last match of the Tigers' season last year, and MacDonald said lessons were learned.
"We learned from last year that starting with a big team can really boost your confidence for the upcoming season's games."
The junior says there are few keys to know whether she's going to have a good match.
"I start off strong with my first kill or first serve, or I just have a good starting point at the beginning of the game."
Courtney's volleyball career began in 1st grade, and says her favorite part of the sport is the teamwork.
"It's all about teamwork and you can't do it by yourself. You obviously can't double hit a ball in a game, so you just need people beside you."
Courtney says her favorite high school class has her interested in a possible career in science.
"I want to find new things out in pharmacy and medicine, and I think chemistry helps me in that."
