VIDEO: Interview with Jen Davis
Tatnall field hockey midfielder Jen Davis is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
The junior scored the game winning goal in overtime in the Hornets' 4-3 comeback victory over Archmere.
The goal was set up by a Meredith Huffman cross, and Davis stuffed it home for the game winner.
"I was just in complete shock when I saw it in the goal. I basically fell to my knees and all of my teammates came around me. It was amazing to be around a complete team effort since we were down."
When she's not scoring game-winning goals, Davis also plays defense and while she feels she's better at offense, she likes the challenges of playing on both sides of the mid-field stripe.
"I like the variety definitely. We play a lot of midfield defense and try not to get it on our defensive end so we're always backing each other up and overlapping."
Often you hear about athletes wanting to give 110 percent, but Jen says the best advice she's ever received is a bit of an off-shoot of that.
"To give 100 percent of whatever we have to give on that day, because even if we only have 50 percent and we're making mistake, we know to keep trying."
Jen hasn't made a college decision yet, and also says she's very much undecided in terms of picking a major.
"There's days when I want to be a doctor, and then there's other days when I want to do economics or politics or even be a lawyer. I really have no idea (laughs)."
