VIDEO: Interview with Lauren Summa
Padua volleyball libero Lauren Summa is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.

Lauren had a match-high 49 digs in pacing the No. 2 seeds to their first ever state championship. Lauren says it was beyond a dream come true.

"It's ten times better than what I ever imagined it to be. I swear I almost had a heart attack on that court (Wednesday) night. Just getting it (the title), I wouldn't trade it for the world."

Lauren made a major change two years ago when she agreed to switch from an all-position player into a defensive specialist.

"I've come to realize that helping score the point is just as rewarding and watching your teammates get the point is just as exciting. Do I wish I was 6'1"? Of course, but I'm happy where I am now."

Speaking to Lauren the day after the state title, I asked her what it means to know she's worn the Padua uniform for the final time.

"I'm going to miss it so much. Today I thought about it and I was like 'it's not going to be the same.' This year totally made all four years worth it.

While Lauren's Padua career is over, volleyball will stay foremost in Lauren's life as she has signed to play with Division II Sheppard University in West Virginia next year.

"When I walked around the campus the coaches were amazing, the campus is beautiful, the team, when I went on my official visit, welcomed me and I just knew. It's like when you go to a campus and you just know."
