VIDEO: Interview with Pierce Ripanti
Caravel running back Pierce Ripanti is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
The senior rushed for two touchdowns in the Bucs' 39-29 Division II state championship victory over Hodgson Friday night.
Pierce says he was playing some of his best football in Caravel's run to the title.
"These last games I just got the ball on a mission. Close to the end zone I'm trying to get a touchdown, close to the first down marker I'm trying to get a first down. Just come ready to tackle (me) I guess."
Caravel reached the title game after falling in the semifinals last year to Indian River, and Ripanti says that game served as motivation.
"Even watching the game, maybe our motivation could been questioned a little bit. This year, it couldn't have been questioned. Losing last year, this year we knew we had to come in and win and that's what we did."
Pierce says an eye to the future has helped push the strongest improvement in his game this year.
"Trying to get into college, a lot of the coaches said I need to work on my speed, I really made an effort to work on my speed and it really helped me out."
Those coaches looking at Pierce including Division I-AA schools, and says he's interested in kinesiology thanks to one of his instructors.
"My anatomy teacher is one of my favorite teachers. I love the study of the body I like learning about things that apply to me."
