VIDEO: Interview with Memuna Turay
Brandywine High School forward Memuna Turay is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.
The senior scored 29 points in a calendar-year opening battle with William Penn Thursday.
Memuna says energy is part of the reason she's one of Delaware's top high school scorers.
"If I'm going hard, rebounding, scoring, motivating my teammates, that's how you know when I'm at my peak."
The Bulldogs started the season 6-0, but Memuna she's used some advice to help her adjust to playing with a younger team that is starting two freshmen.
"You've got to play as a team. It's a team sport, you can't just do it by yourself. You've got motivate your teammates because it's a five-person game not a one-person game. It influenced me to play with my teams to get them (teammates) more involved."
Memuna has scored 19 or more points in five of her team's eight teams, but says better conditioning has helped her play additional minutes.
"I think I got in better shape with more running."
Memuna says she would like to play basketball in college, but hasn't decided on a major. She does say television has influenced her favorite class at Brandywine, however.
"Forensic science, because all I watch is NCIS and Law and Order: SVU."
