VIDEO: Interview with Amber Cale
Appoquinimink's Amber Cale is this week's WDEL Female High School Athlete of the Week.

The basketball forward scored 17 points in a conference victory over William Penn Monday.

Three-pointers have become the hot shot in basketball in recent years, but Amber sees her self as an old-school style forward.

"I like working from the block, and then I work my way inside-out. I start off on the block, maybe I'll take a couple jumpers, but I'm a dominant post player."

Appo has won 11 straight following a season-opening loss to St. Mark's, and Amber says her team has made one major improvement.

"Teamwork. Game one, it was a disaster on the court. We have a young team, everybody's learning including a freshman point guard who hadn't really played basketball. Now we've learned to work together and we know each other's strengths and weaknesses and we're able to capitalize on them in the games."

Team chemistry isn't always easy to achieve, but Amber says Appo enjoys doing things as a team on and off the floor.

"We have pasta parties, we'll have sleepovers, we've gone skating as a team together. We have to be friends on and off the court so that chemistry is strong."

Speaking of chemistry, that's a possible major for Amber after some fun experiences in her high school class.

"We were able to set things on fire. You had the Bunsen Burners and you were able to mix chemicals together and make things explode and that's what I liked about it (laughs)."
