"From Fat to Fit: Childhood Obesity in Delaware"
WDEL's Mellany Armstrong produced a five-part series examining the problem of childhood obesity in Delaware. Mellany conducted several interviews with school officials, nutritionists, parents, students and even school lunch planners about the problem and what’s being done to combat the problem.

"DANG Drill"
WDEL's Mellany Armstrong reports on a Delaware Air National Guard exercise which simulated a dirty bomb attack, requiring guard members to travel to the Washington D.C. area and fly “victims” to a military hospital in North Carolina. Mellany was permitted to watch the exercise in D.C., talk to participants (including observers and “victims”) and fly with the Guard to Carolina.
WDEL competes in a region which includes Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
WDEL won the most awards in its class.

WDEL was presented with the CAPBA's highest honor for our commitment to give Delaware extensive local news coverage.
In addition to newscasts every half-hour, WDEL provides listeners with live coverage of breaking news, local press conferences, major speeches from Delaware elected officials, plus creative feature reporting.
WDEL News also produces weekly features on health, education and hi-tech issues, along with “Assignment: Delaware” – a weekly, in-depth look at issues facing Delaware and “Delaware’s Stories” – profiles on “everyday” Delawareans.
WDEL has the only three-man, on-the-road team of traffic reporters.
And WDEL features “Delaware’s News at Noon” – a one-hour news-magazine program featuring interviews and thoughtful analysis on local, national and international topics. Host Allan Loudell has conducted interviews with newsmakers and reporters from all corners of the world.

WDEL’s Peter MacArthur produced this three-part series after several people died in Wilmington and surrounding communities after injecting “dirty” heroin. Peter conducted close to a dozen interviews for the series. Among others, Peter spoke with a man whose brother was killed by the heroin, law enforcement and health authorities, and local religious leaders.
Judges' comments: "Good writing and overall creativity when putting this documentary together."
