WDEL Blog: Editor's Notes

Changes to WDEL.com Blogs

Today we launch a new blog on WDEL.com: Editor's Notes. Editor's Notes is our place to notify you of changes, additions, new features, and more on WDEL.com. It'll also be our place to explain how or why things happen or changes are made. Contributors will vary, and it won't be updated as frequently as, say, Allan Loudell's blog. But we hope you find it to be a useful tool in exploring all that WDEL.com has to offer.

The first post comes from me, Jason Thomas, resident Webmaster here at WDEL.com. I want to let you know about a change we are making to our blogs effective today.

When we post a blog topic, we're always looking forward to a lively discussion of it in the comments section. We expect things will get a little heated from time to time, and we don't have any desire to get into the habit of censoring your thoughts. But recently some commenters have been going over the line, including sometimes posting comments under other commenters' names. We want to protect your online profile as much as you do, so it's time for a change.

Effective today, you will need to be a member of the WDEL Members Only Group in order to post a comment. Your Members Only Group username and password will be required for each comment you post. This doesn't mean we're going to start displaying your full name with each post; rather, your posts will now be credited to your account's username. In doing this, you can feel fairly certain that only posts you write will be posted under your name.

This may seem like a big change, but it actually puts WDEL.com more in line with other online news communities. Most other sites already require some form of log-in in order to participate in discussions such as blogs. It's time to bring WDEL.com up to those standards.

If you are already a member of the WDEL Members Only Group, just use your username and password to post comments. If you have forgotten your username or password, you can get a reminder at http://www.wdel.com/list . If you still have problems accessing your account, please feel free to contact me at webmaster@wdel.com .

If you're NOT a member of the WDEL Members Only Group, this is a perfect time to join! In addition to having access to posting comments on the blogs, you can also sign up to receive Delaware's Top Stories by email everyday at 3:30pm, along with other opportunities and newsletters. You can sign up FOR FREE at http://www.wdel.com/members.php .

We hope this change will make for a better, more responsible discussion on our blogs. As always, should you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to let us/me know. Hey, you can start by leaving a comment below... :)

Thanks for listening!

Jason Thomas
