Delawareans should take the opportunity to head to the Bob Carpenter Center sometime in the next year-and-a-half to see Elena Delle Donne play.
The University of Delaware is fortunate to have the young woman who may be the most talented player in America...bar none. Yes, Brittney Griner of Baylor will get more ink but only because she is 6-9 and blocks everything in sight. Is she more talented than Elena? Absolutely not.
Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame will probably get more pub and notoriety as well because she's Notre Dame. But anyone who has seen Delle Donne play will have to admit, she has talent rare in the women's game.
Tina Martin won the lottery when Delle Donne decided after just a day that UConn was not the right place for her. Now, in just 63 games at Delaware, she has become the all-time leading scorer in Blue Hens women's history, has led the team to its first national ranking, and with the cast surrounding her, could make some noise in the NCAA tournament.
So don't let this opportunity pass you by. If you have not seen Elena play, get down there this season...I suppose there is a possibility she will bypass her last year if she graduates on time. But I would suspect, because she is having fun and playing so well, she might want to use her final year of eligibility next year as well. But don't take a chance....get out to see the best women's basketball player in America. You won't regret it.
