Great North American Radio Hobbyists' Conference - March 1st--3rd - Plymouth Meeting, PA

If you have a special fascination for nearly any facet of radio - domestic broadcasting; receiving distant broadcast stations (AM, FM, shortwave, TV); scanners; pirate stations; to a lesser extent, Citizen's Band & Amateur Radio - a radio hobbyists' conference kicks off at the start of March.

It will draw radio hobbyists from around North America - even some from Europe and Asia - but will take place less than an hour's driving distance from Wilmington, March 1st--3rd, at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.

If you have a special love for radio - if you have nostalgic recollections of picking up distant AM and shortwave stations, even collecting QSL's - you should consider attending.

I'll drive up to Plymouth Meeting that Friday morning.

In the world of international shortwave broadcasting, austerity-minded Western & European broadcasters continue to phase out shortwave broadcasting in favor of the Internet and other platforms. Radio Bulgaria was the latest station to sign-off (January 31st). But China and increasingly India are all over the dial these days. They seem to realize millions of people in the developing world don't have internet access, but DO have radios.

Thanks for sharing this news Allan. The FCC showed it had a sense of humor when I was issued the ham radio calls WA3DUM. It took me more than one time to pass the General exam!

I still own 3 Grundig SW receivers, plus the Drake transceiver. No time to DX anymore, but really enjoyed it in my teens and 20's.

My Dad's love for radio grew after I got my license. He stayed active until the end, even passing the Extra Class when he was 80!
