Next 6 weeks will decide Phillies season

With Roy Halladay out for the next 6 to 8 weeks, that period of time will decide the Phillies 2012 season.

The Phillies offense has improved without Chase Utley and Ryan Howard but is still only just adequate...but that's better than where it was.

The bullpen is still shaky....until you get to the closer, Jonathan Papelbon. He's been outstanding...getting to him has not.

Now, the Phillies' big problem is the starting rotation. Cole Hamels is as good as they come...Cliff Lee, although he is just 0-2, has an earned run average under 3.00. Your next two are Joe Blanton and Kyle Kendrick. While Kendrick had a sensational outing last weekend against St. Louis, he's a gut who's either really good or really bad. He's fine as a number 4 or 5 starter. Joe Blanton is up and down as well...he's 4-4 with a 4.96 ERA. His last 3 outings have been brutal.

Vance Worley will be back...soon, hopefully. And there are your 5 starters...at least for the next 6 to 8 weeks. There doesn't seem to be anyone in their farm system to come up and help out. A trade is not likely.

Can that roster, and especially the pitching staff, keep them in the division race? They are only 4 games back. I have my doubts.
