I am not a member of the “Catholic Right” but I am very uneasy about Pope Francis. There is arrogance about him that one normally sees in American liberals. While trying to portray himself as more “one of the people” than the rest of us, he is actually putting himself above other Catholics.
I posted on an EWTN Facebook post yesterday that I do not admire arrogance and stupidity. I was referring to His Holiness discarding common-sense security measures. Making a wrong turn while in a vehicle without bullet-proof glass left him very vulnerable to an easy shot. If I had the opportunity, I would point out to him that a wrong turn led to the death of an Archduke and his pregnant wife in Serbia, kicking off World War I. It seems the would-be assassin had taken a wrong turn himself. And does he think God will protect him better than JP II?
I have listened to his sermons and Wednesday audiences. I find a “holier than thou” attitude that is unbecoming. Okay, he is the Pope. I get that. But he feigns humility while not carefully hiding how he really views himself. To me, he is a papal Jimmy Carter. Wearing a sweater during a televised speech was supposed to make him one of the people. Humility comes from within, not from outer wear.

Of course he's "holier than thou"... he's the pope! There's supposedly no one living holier than he, according to Catholic teaching! But I digress.
I've listened to and read some of Pope Francis's stuff... I don't get the same feeling as JimH. I get a much more down-to-earth view from him... certainly MUCH more humble and less arrogant than his predecessor!

It's really no different than politics. If you are a member of any of the corrupt conservative parties, religious or political, you are going to cause trouble with every good human being who actually does believe one should follow the teachings of Jesus. Conservatives believe in enriching themselves first; even Jesus pointed that out! Only after their own selfish needs have been first taken care of, do conservatives throw a penny to the poor.
