Ted Cruz: Bigger-than-life hero to Tea Party folks; anathema to nearly everyone else...
Here's the guessing game about Ted Cruz: Does he self-destruct between now and the 2016 Republican Presidential race or does he remain the Tea Party favorite and G.O.P. establishment nightmare, and consequently, a prohibitive favorite for the G.O.P. Presidential nomination?
In an effort to thwart Ted Cruz, does the G.O.P. establishment grudgingly get behind Rand Paul as the one guy who might be able to draw both Tea Party and "regular" Main Street Republican support?
One thing's clear: Even as he's only enhanced his credibility with many Tea Party folks, Senator Cruz has alienated much of the Washington-based, conservative commentariat which once lauded him. That, in turn, only accentuates his anti-establishment appeal.
Meanwhile, it's interesting how the G.O.P.'s other "ethnic" would-be Presidential hopefuls (Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal) have noticeably faded, at least for now.
Check out this article from NATIONAL JOURNAL on line:, "What the Media got Wrong about Ted Cruz"...
Ted Cruz is having money pouring in. The stupid people are sending him cash. The big-wheelers who need governmental disruption in order to prosper are writing him big checks..
These antics, which is what they were, had very little to do with anything in the government and quite a bit to do with increasing the power of Ted Cruz.
Looking back over history, and all do complain how today's politics are cantankerous compared to the backroom deals of long ago, if you look for the time frame of when this started, it was when the limits on money influencing campaigns were lifted....
IF campaigns were again sponsored by five dollars from regular voters, alienating the vast majority of the nation would be suicidal... But now, alienating the nation is just one step up the ladder towards becoming President if you are a Republican....
We should all be talking about the statesmanship of Rand Paul... (Allan pointed that up first)... Yet he is drowned out ... It is all Cruz, Cruz, Cruz... When it comes time to write a check to whomever will disrupt the government the most... which man do you think will be getting that fat donation?

People hunger for leaders who "practice what they preach" and leaders who lead. Cruz is popular with Texas and the Tea Party because he stood his ground and fought for his constituents (and against the old guard G.O.P. ...Rand will pop up again as will Mike Lee and many other "new guard" Republicans, because each one is leading rather than following polls.
As ACA continues to flounder and fail, those who opposed it will look like wise sages rather than "terrorist Teahadists".

The media hostility to Ted Cruz is nothing new. Nor is the love he is receiving from his supporters.
Cruz is a populist. We don't see many of them these days. When we do, they are mostly on the Left. And the media love those politicians. But Cruz is different. He is a Right-Wing populist who went to D.C. and followed through on what he said he would do. His voter-base loves it. But the media have to find a way to tear him down.

Ted Cruz remains my favorite no matter what happens. If the country goes to hell in a handbasket, it ain't because of him or the Tea Party, but rather the communists in the G.O.P./Democrat establishment.

Mrpizza: Really, communists??? Just a bit of hyperbole, I hope.
Socialists are folks like the nations of Sweden, Norway, etc. Communists are folks like the nations of the U.S.S.R, Red China, Cuba, North Korea.
The Socialists in Sweden and Norway seem to be living a pretty nice lifestyle vs. the Communists in the former U.S.S.R., China, Cuba, or North Korea.
Come on, Joseph McCarthy was a nutjob and dangerous, surely the TEA folks don't want to be lumped in with Tailgun Gunner Joe?
Surely you watched the Dick Morris video on what the G.O.P. needs to do to recover after the shutdown. If you missed this one, you might want to view it. I believe Morris has got the right idea.
Remember in order for the G.O.P./TEA folks to eliminate Obamacare, you've got to win in 2014 AND 2016. So, short-term, you're stuck with Obamacare [you didn't win in 2012]; it is what it is. Listen to what Dick Morris suggests; I think he's onto something and a winning solution for the GOP/TEA party to make it a winner in both 2014 and 2016.
The G.O.P. has tried for years to be "nice guys" in hopes of being loved by the Democrats and the drive-by media. None of it has worked, and they've continued to lose more and more ground. If Ted Cruz can't save their ---es, then they don't deserve to exist.

Oh, by the way, you mentioned Joe McCarthy. While I do agree he was over the top, I do sometimes ask where he is when you really need him. Same for Nixon.

Mrpizza: According to the latest polls, as reported by CBS News, show: "Disapproval of Republicans in Congress has risen five percentage points since before the shutdown, to 78 percent."
This says pretty clearly that The TEA folks are out-of-step with MOST of America. The game is over for the G.O.P./TEA IF the "Nazi" tactics continue. Yes, I said Nazi tactics.
No, the TEA folks are NOT national socialists - the TEA party wants a smaller government whereas the Nazis wanted more government control - BUT the TEA Party acts in a similar way as the Nazis did; yes, you want a smaller government, BUT you want to CONTROL IT and have things done YOUR way. You do it our vay or else. Ve've got vays of making you comply. Even though ve lost the election to that dumbkopf Obama, ve know vhat's best for dos nation and VILL FORCE you to do it OUR VAY or ve'll shut down dos government, Heil Cruz.
THAT's why folks say the TEA party is a bunch of Nazis, and why so many folks, apparently 78% disapprove of the G.O.P./TEA Party folks in Congress.
So why not learn from the experience and moderate a bit, and learn to work with folks better? The TEA folks are seen as bullies in the school yard. People are frankly tired of the "monkey-shines" the radical TEA folks are performing.
The TEA party has SOME good ideas, but you folks have a lousy way of selling your ideas. As a friend of mine said in an e-mail discussion a bunch of us had the other day with a TEA person, you don't sell someone something by first kicking him in the balls. Apparently no one who sells things for a living is a member of the TEA party, because that organization is lousy in its sales approach; 78% disapproval speaks volumes.
So keep doing the same crap over and over again, and help Hillary become Prez in 2016. The DEMS are praying the TEA Party continues to do its normal schtick.

Screw the polls! They probably only asked Democrats anyway. But let Hillary become prez. If you think Obama faced opposition, just wait 'til SHE gets in office!

So the Tea Partiers, who do as their constituents wanted, are "Nazis"?... What does that make those who have spied on every private citizen of this country as well as our allies via N.S.A.? Or those who used the I.R.S. to intimidate and prosecute those who dare disagree with the regime? Or those who are currently arming/supporting Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood?
History note: The Muslim Brotherhood worked with the Third Reich against the Jews..."enemy of my enemy is my friend".
