Up & coming G.O.P. "flamethrowers" who could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
About a month to month-and-a-half ago, with the partial U.S. Government shutdown and looming debt ceiling, the Dems were talking confidently about gains in the 2014 mid-term election, and many Republicans were hunkering down, fearing the shutdown, etc., would only further alienate potential swing voters, and do nothing to reverse the G.O.P.'s demographic imbalance.
Today, with the President's health-care overhaul treading water, that all seems like ancient history and it's the Democrats' turn to fear the 2014 mid-terms.
But before Republicans get TOO overconfident -- just as the Dems were before -- they should consider the very dilemma they faced in the previous election: Ultra-right "grass roots" candidates handing some Congressional seats to Democrats. Of course, it depends on the state: Missouri ain't Texas!
If they just get Elvis's birthday right, they'll be fine.
