WDEL ALERT: I-495 bridge fully open

Blue Hen hoops looking fuzzy

Delaware basketball coach Monte Ross will try to defend his CAA title next year with just two players who were at least semi-regular starters, after guard Jarvis Threatt was dismissed from the program for violating team rules. The violations apparently had been ongoing since he was suspended twice during the season.

Threatt was the leding returning scorer, averaging 18 points per game. Now some would say this is a big loss. I'm not so sure.

Ross' teams, while having some pretty good talent in recent years, have been characterized by undisciplined offense...no one more undisciplined than Threatt. Watching him play made you want to scream because he never met a shot he didn't like...some which had absolutely no chance of going in.

He always seemed to be a me-first kind of player, even with a tremendous talent level and ability to get to the foul line.

Now they will have to depend on Kyle Anderson, some freshmen guards, as well as a few sophomores who had limited playing time last year. I don't see that as all bad. They may not repeat as conference champs but they should be more watchable...especially if you like your offense with some order to it.
