Founded on the belief that writers can, and should, use skills to help give voice to the many people who have important stories to tell, the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild strives to educate, nurture, and encourage writers.
“It doesn't matter if you've never published or if you've published many, many, books. I mean, it's kind of all equal for us...we want to hear your story.”
Executive Director Marybeth Fischer says in addition to “free write” events held four nights a week, one of the Guild's most popular programs is the monthly reading series...an opportunity to give writers of all ages and levels the chance to write, refine, and share their work.
“We throw out a theme and people write 300 words or fewer on this theme. They polish it, they get it in the best shape it can be, and then they get up and read. What's really wonderful is that we will have nationally known published writers read an excerpt in 300 words or fewer, and we'll have an 11 year old kid all in the same venue...everybody is equal.”
