VIDEO: St. Mark's Mirabella is "WDEL HS Athlete of the Week"
Saint Mark's volleyball player Abbie Mirabella is this week's WDEL High School Athlete of the Week.
Abbie helped lead the Spartans to an upset over top-ranked Archmere last week.
Abbie is a freshman who joined a team that made the state semifinals last season, but says fitting in hasn't been a problem.
"I feel like I can contribute a lot to our team. As soon as I came in, I feel like our team just accepted me."
Mirabella is a 5-tool player, she kills, she digs, she gets aces, she blocks, and she's an excellent passer. What does she say her best skill is?
"My best attribute is just helping the team with anything they need. I contribute a lot with hitting and passing."
Which of her skills does Abbie say feels best on the court?
"The best feeling is getting kills, I like the thrill of it and feeling so powerful."
Abbie's success started young. Who does she say was her biggest influence getting her started in volleyball?
"My Mom. She used to take me to all of her practices when she coached for CYM. I used to play with all the older girls and I really liked it."
Saint Mark's goals every season include winning the Catholic Conference and State titles, but Abbie says the team is more focused on improving itself.
"Just to play well and play our hardest against team, and just to go out there and do our best."
