Martinez, Kendrick lead Phillies over Mets 8-5

Michael Martinez was the Phillies hero on Sunday....

Martinez later added a sac fly - 4 RBIs on the day - a career high...as the Phils beat the Mets 8-5.

Kyle Kendrick went 7 innings and only gave up 1 run despite dealing with a lot of base runners to earn the victory. He improves to 5-4...and even singled twice.

Ryan Howard got the scoring started with an RBI single in the 1st.

It's only the first series after the All-Star break, but Howard says the Phils have big plans...

Atlanta also won, so the Phils lead in the NL East remains 3.5.

The Phils move onto Chicago to start a series with the Cubs tonight.
Roy Halladay is on the mound for the Phils against Rodrigo Lopez. Pre-game coverage on WDEL begins at 7:30.
