VIDEO: Newark's Reynolds - WDEL Male HS Athlete of the Week
Newark High School Quarterback Taylor Reynolds is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
Reynolds threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another in the Yellowjackets' 35-28 win over William Penn Friday night.
Taylor says he patterns his game after Cam Newton and Michael Vick, but says scrambling isn't always on his mind.
"Pass first and run second. You use the run to get out of trouble, but if you see an open receiver you should get him the ball."
Newark went 2-8 in 2009 before going 6-4 last season, Taylor says there are good reasons his team has improved so quickly.
"We're much more mature physically, mentally, and socially. We have a lot of chemistry with each other because we've been together so long. We've grown."
The fact that Taylor is the starting quarterback at Newark isn't much of a surprise, you might say he has the bloodlines for the position.
"My grandfather and my uncles were all quarterbacks. I figured I would follow in the family footsteps and create my own legacy."
Taylor is getting plenty of attention from colleges, including the Blue Hens, what is he looking for in a school?
"You can't be good at education, but drop off in football. You've got to have a good balance, and have a good coaching staff and environment I'm going to live in."
