VIDEO: Hodgson's Jackson - WDEL Male HS Athlete of the Week
Hodgson Quarterback Donovan Jackson is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
Jackson threw for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 32-12 win over previously unbeaten Howard Saturday.
Donovan says he patterns his game after a local team's star.
"Michael Vick, because he can run and pass the ball, he's a triple threat."
Division II schools in Delaware typically have a tough road just to make the playoffs. Donovan says 2011 will be no different.
"Howard was undefeated, St. Georges' is undefeated, Caravel is undefeated, so it's difficult and we have to keep working hard and getting better each week."
As for Hodgson, the Silver Eagles went an uncharacteristic 2-8 last year, but says this year's success started immediately after last season.
"We started working out earlier in the weight room, we went to a team camp and bonded together. This year everyone is focused, we're not playing around, practice is much more serious this year."
I asked Donavon for an early football memory, and Donovan says he remembers a sticky situation his youth football team got caught up in.
"It was a flag football championship. The team had glued their flags to their hips so we couldn't pull them off." The team was eventually disqualified.
