A big gaping hole rests in the roof of the Wilmington Friends School as large chunks came crashing to the ground. The three alarm fire broke out just after 1pm Tuesday in the school's first floor auditorium. Dave Carpenter is with the Talleyville Fire Department, which was first on-scene. He tells WDEL the fire quickly escalated. "Upon arrival when the fire advanced into the second story of the auditorium then the firefighters realized the roof was collapsing, they evacuated out of the structure; the incident went to three alarms which is about 25 pieces of equipment and 100 firefighters on-scene," explains Carpenter. Two firefighters were hurt combating this blaze. They were transported to Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals where they're in stable condition. Still no word on a cause. |
