Newark man charged with strangling son, setting house on fire

A Newark man is under arrest after police say he tried to burn his own house down...with him inside.

44 year old Ralph Rossi had allegedly tried to strangle his 17 year old son, who left their house at 1203 Old Cooches Bridge Road.

A short time later, at about 7:15 Thursday night, the home was reported on fire.

When crews got there, Rossi was outside, having been dragged there by a passerby despite Rossi's insistence on staying inside while the home burned.

Rossi was taken to Christiana Hospital for evaluation.

Police say he'll be charged with arson, strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child.
