"State of the Estuary" report released The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary has released its "State of the Estuary Report," and there's good news. Partnership Executive Director Jennifer Adkins tells WDEL News the group's first report in four years says like a patient in a hospital, the river's condition in the last several decades has improved from critical to fair, thanks in large part to the passage of the federal Clean Air Act of 1970. She says, "Water quality in the Delaware River and Bay is better than it has been in a long, long time, but that's been slow improvement over time." Adkins says the biggest challenge now isn't controlling the big polluters--it's getting a handle on small sources of pollution, like driveway runoff from people washing their cars. |
