Lifflander to face Atkins again in House contest

Democrat Barbara Lifflander is trying again to win the state legislative seat in Millsboro that was held until last year by John Atkins, the man who defeated her twice.

During those races, Atkins was a Republican. This time, the two candidates will face off in a Democratic primary.

Atkins gave up the seat last year rather than face a possible ethics expulsion from the House. It was revealed he had flashed his legislative identification during a traffic stop in Maryland for suspected drunken driving in 2006. He was later charged with offensive touching in a domestic dispute that occured when he returned home.

Republican Greg Hastings won the House seat in a special election, and Atkins changed parties this year in a bid to defeat him.
