VIDEO: Concord grinds though 5 sets to top Wilmington Friends
Paige Thommes had 16 kills and 12 digs as Concord swerved past Wilmington Friends in 5 sets. They didn't win a set by more than 3 points, but timely kills sparked their victory.
The first two sets were back and forth action, nobody getting a lead of more than 6 in either set. Erin Skibicki highlighted the 1st set with 2 memorable big kills, and kept them in the 2nd set as best she could.
However Concord looked more like themselves in the 2nd and 3rd sets, taking control with late aces and multiple blocks at the net. In the 3rd they were anchored by Kristen Brooks who had 3 kills late to secure the set for the Radiers.
A dominating 4th set by the Quakers would be overshadowed by Concord's great performance in the 5th set. Thommes lead the way for the Raiders with 2 of the last 3 kills as they take it 15-12.
Skibicki had 18 kills and 17 digs for the Quakers in defeat. Thommes had 2 aces and 3 blocks in addition to her 16 kills for the Raiders.
Concord moves to 13-1 and will play Archmere Monday at 4:45. Wilmington Friends drops to 7-6, they play Tatnall Friday at 5:15.
