VIDEO: Tower Hill defeats Brandywine in Field Hockey tourney opener
Tower Hill's Sophie Peipher scored two goals and recorded two assists to push the Hillers to a 4-1 opening round victory over previously-unbeaten Brandywine in the DIAA State Field Hockey Tournament.
The host Hillers jumped ahead in the 6th minute, when Peipher was able to elude the defense after a furious opening attack.
Brandywine had a pair of chances to equalize, but their penalty corners resulted in a chest save and kick save by Hiller netminder Lindsay von der Luft who finished with 4 saves on the afternoon.
The kick save was quickly cashed in by Tower Hill, as 3 quick passes covered nearly all of the field, finding Jenna Chodos behind the defense for the breakaway goal, boosting the lead to 2-0. She would make it 3-0 after corralling a centering pass by Peipher and flicking it past the leg of the Brandywine netminder with 11:54 to go in the half.
Brandywine got on the scoreboard four minutes into the second half when Erin Courtney tipped home a long shot off the stick of Caitlin Moloney, but the Bulldogs could not sustain the momentum.
Peipher would put the game away 9 minutes later, when she tipped home a shut by Kendal Robino after a beautiful give-and-go play inside the circle.
Tower Hill outshot the Flight B Champions 16-7, and led them 10-3 in penalty corners.
Kelly Reese made 7 saves for the Bulldogs, who dropped their first game of the season in the loss.
