Newark holds open house on 'smart meters'
Smart meters that read electric and water use are coming to Newark, and residents can get a look at the project at an open house Tuesday.
City Manager Carol Houck says businesses and residents will save money with the new meters.
"They're going to now be able to have more accurate information about their usage so that they will be able to go online and, if they so desire to purchase a smart thermostat within their home, they'll have actual information on their usage so that they can change their behaviors and maybe have a thought towards conservation," she said.
The meter reading will be more efficient - Houck says water meters will be read monthly instead of quarterly. The open house is Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Newark city council chambers on Elkton Road. Get more information by clicking here.
