Mayor Baker issues "ban the box" executive order
Wilmington's Mayor has issued an executive order removing criminal conviction questions from applications for non-uniformed city jobs.
Mayor Baker issued the order mandating the so-called "ban the box" provision, mirroring similar laws already on the books in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and a federal law currently under consideration by a US House of Representatives committee.
City Council recommended last week that Wilmington adopt "ban the box," which doesn't stop the city from doing criminal background checks once applicants are given a conditional offer of employment.
