VIDEO: Sanford survives Sals' comeback
Todd Hughes' three-pointer sparked a game-ending 17-7 run, keeping Sanford unbeaten in Delaware with a 57-48 victory over Salesianum Friday night.
Sanford seemed in cruise control when Sabri Thompson hit 3 three-pointers in the opening quarter to lead 23-8 after the opening quarter.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Salesianum missed the memo, responding with a 17-4 run in 5:40 of the second quarter to cut the deficit to two following a Nick Perugino triple.
Thompson then hit his fourth three-pointer of the half, pushing Sanford to a 32-25 advantage at intermission.
The break didn't snap the Sals' momentum however, as they took the lead on a basket in traffic with 2:30 to go in the 3rd quarter.
The lead see-sawed back and forth from there, with Salesianum's largest lead coming at 41-37 early in the 4th quarter when a wild sequence which started with Sanford's Anthony Mosely rejecting what seemed like a clear fast-break jam by Donte DiVincenzo , only to see the sophomore get the ball back seconds later and hit a 3 for the visitors.
Sanford had the last laugh however, with Hughes' long range shot being followed by layups by Austin Ford, who was playing his first game following a knee injury, and Thompson eventually boosting the Warriors to the win.
Thompson led all scorers with 17 points, while Kyle Rose scored 13 and Hughes had 12. DiVincenzo led the Sals with 13 points.
