VIDEO: A.I.'s Watson - WDEL Male HS Athlete of the Week
A.I. duPont forward Braxton Watson is this week's WDEL Male High School Athlete of the Week.
Braxton hit three 3-pointers in his team's overtime victory over Flight A rival William Penn to remain unbeaten Tuesday.
Watson says despite the 9-0 record, his team is continuing to get better.
"At the beginning of the season we were still trying to gel with each other and find a flow. I think right now our chemistry is real high, we all enjoy playing together and have a good flow of the game."
The Tigers are succeeding with a high-octane style of basketball, and Braxton seems himself as an energy leader on the team.
"Expect to see a player who is going 100 percent every play, I don't take any plays off. Whether it's offense or defense, I'm going to try hard to lock up the player I'm defending or try to go after the person who is guarding me. If I'm having an off offensive game I'm going to try my best to get rebounds, blocks, or steals.
Braxton's father starred on some of Wilmington High School's top teams, and Braxton says he uses his advice to make him a better player.
"When you have a father, or someone in your household, who knows the game and loves the game as much as you do, it is very important. He can show you things, tell you things, about the game, and kind of get your head in the game compared to those who don't."
Braxton says he'd like to continue playing basketball in college, but says he's motivated to move into education after school.
"My Mom was a teacher, my Dad is a teacher, all my brothers are teachers, so I guess it just runs in my blood. I like helping people out and I like education."
