Bids coming up for major UD construction projects
Major construction projects on the University of Delaware's campus are already underway, and WDEL's Amy Cherry tells us you can expect more to start very soon.
Millions of dollars will be spent on renovations to the University of Delaware's baseball stadium, the Perkins Student Lounge, the Harrington Residence Hall--which will see a new fitness center and convenience store.
Eager contractors can expect bidding to begin soon.
"Most of these projects will be coming online will be available between march and probably May of this year," says Andy Lubin, UD's Director of Real Estate.
Since June, UD has awarded 245 contracts worth $272 million. Delaware companies got $176 million worth of the work.
Four major projects already underway on campus are employing 500 workers, and we can expect several hundred more jobs coming down the pike.
"There will be a number of job opportunities for contractors, different types of trade and finishing contractors," says Lubin.
Construction at the University of Delaware's relatively new STAR campus is also underway.
"104,000 sq. feet of academic space for the College of Health Sciences, and another 200,000 sq. feet to be developed over the next 12-18 months for corporate partners," explains Lubin.
Other projects up for bids by August of 2013 are renovations to the ISEB Research Laboratory and the Academy Street Dining and Resident Hall.
The University is also looking at up to $2 million in capital maintenance improvements at various campus spots that can be bid on between February and April.
