VIDEO: Sharp-Shooting Hens tame Northeastern
Elena Delle Donne's 26 points topped a productive night for the Blue Hens' offense in a 77-50 home conference victory over Northeastern.
The 25th-ranked Blue Hens opened the game on a 17-2 run which was started by a pair of three pointers by Delle Donne and another by Lauren Carra.
The Huskies would get back to within 10 at 28-18 following a free throw by Kashaia Cannon who scored a team-high 10 points, but Delaware pulled away soon after, eventually leading 37-24 at the break. Delaware shot 53.6 percent from the floor and 4-of-7 from behind the arc in the opening twenty minutes.
Second half action proved no better for Northeastern, as Delaware's shooting only got better, eventually swelling the advantage to 29 points thanks to 60 percent shooting in the second half, and another 4 long-range shots on 6 attempts.
Meanwhile, Delaware's defense clamped down, forcing 14 Huskies turnovers and holding the visitors to 28 percent shooting in the second half.
Delle Donne added 5 rebounds as the Hens outrebounded Northeastern 40-25. Jacquetta May, Danielle Parker, and Lauren Career shared team-high honors with 6.
Delaware claimed its 11th straight win and 26th consecutive CAA victory. They wrap up a 3-games-in-5-days stretch in Atlanta against Georgia State Thursday night. Delaware complete 5 games in 11 nights ending with the next home game with Hofstra Sunday.
