VIDEO: Hens' offense explodes in victory over ODU

Elena Delle Donne scored 26 points and set two more CAA records in a 86-62 conference victory over Old Dominion Thursday night.

Delaware's All-American candidate made 9 of her 14 shots from the field and all 6 of her free throws to set career Colonial Athletic Association records for FGs (913) and FTs (688). 17 of her points came in the opening half which Delaware led 41-28 after the first 20 minutes.

The Blue Hens clamped down defensively in the second period, forcing nine Lady Monarch turnovers, and keeping the guests to just 37.5% shooting from the field after intermission.

Meanwhile Delaware's offense was clicking, collecting a season-high 24 assists on their 31 baskets, with Delle Donne leading the way with 6. Nine different Blue Hens picked up assists as Delaware (21-3, 12-0 CAA) picked up their 16th straight victory. The 86 points also represented a season-high.

The game is the final scheduled match-up between the two squads as ODU moves to the Sun Belt next season, rendering them ineligible for the CAA Tournament next month. Tina Martin said after the game she would be open to scheduling ODU as a non-conference opponent however.

Delaware hits the road for a two-game road trip beginning against William & Mary on Sunday afternoon.
