Wilmington Mayor explores minor league hockey franchise for city
Plans to attract more entertainment...and people...to Wilmington may be put on ice...literally.
Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams tells Delaware's Morning News that he and his support staff are exploring whether a minor league hockey franchise may be a fit for the city.
"Even when I was a state legislator many years ago I looked at this for Wilmington. We are right in the area where we could draw northern Maryland, southern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. We are ripe for the picking here."
No word on what might make a good location for a team and how construction of an arena would be funded.
Also, Williams says, on the heels of the recent boxing matches at the Chase Center, they're hoping to bring another boxing card there in April.
