VIDEO: Ursuline rolls into tournament by routing Sanford

Ursuline's combination of aggressive defense and excellent passing staked them an easy 22-4 first quarter lead on their way to an easy 58-27 Senior Night victory over Sanford Wednesday.

Sanford's Alison Lewis made a lay-up after a nice high-low pass to cut Ursuline's lead to 6-4, but then the Raiders scored the final 16 points of the opening frame. Laura Hurff and Adrianna Hahn each scored 7 points in the opening quarter, with both of Hurff's two-point baskets coming off of backdoor cut passes.

Meanwhile, the Warriors struggled to penetrate the Raiders defense, with skip passes being routinely intercepted and being converted into easy baskets in transition.

Lindsay Russell hit a three-pointer just before halftime to put Ursuline up 38-10 at the break. Mary Abram scored a couple of baskets late in the 3rd quarter as Ursuline stretched the lead to a game-high 32 points at 46-14.

Abram led Ursuline (14-5) with 14 points while Hahn scored 13 and Huff added 9. Nine different Raiders scored points with six connecting on a combined seven 3-pointers.

Sanford (15-5) entered the game on a 13-game winning streak, but put no players in double figures. Both teams are expected to be high seeds when the DIAA State Tournament bracket is released Friday.
