Police: Softball bat used in murder
County police say a softball bat was the murder weapon in the death of a Claymont man February 16th.
"We believe a (softball) bat, which is a TPS bat, was possibly used in this crime. It's a rare bat, it looks like an older model bat, and we're just hoping somebody can come forward with some information for us to help us," said Corporal John Weglarz.
Weglarz says 43-year-old Wayne Cappelli's body was found in a ditch in the Silvercroft community in Brandywine Hundred. He had been walking home from work from DuPont when he was killed. Police also have home surveillance video of two vehicles, one in which the brake lights go on for a period of time. Police would like to find out who these cars belong to, to rule them out as suspects in the crime.
Detectives are also asking for individuals throughout New Castle County who, while out walking, have been approached by any suspicious person or persons and/or vehicles and as a result were threatened or assaulted, to call police.
