Man sentenced for beating ex-girlfriend to death
A man who pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the death of his ex-girlfriend has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Gregory Griffin of Bear apologized to the family of Simone Robinson at sentencing Thursday.
The News Journal reports that Griffin had entered the plea to second-degree murder in November. His lawyer said then that Griffin, a Marine who served in the Iraq war from 2003 to 2004, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Prosecutors say in October 2011, Griffin killed Robinson, the mother of two of his children, by slamming her head repeatedly against the sidewalk.
