VIDEO: A.I. cruises into quarterfinals over Brandywine
No. 6 A.I. duPont left little doubt as they jumped ahead of Brandywine early, and then cruised to a 73-47 victory in a DIAA 2nd Round matchup Saturday evening.
Five Tigers (16-5) hit three-pointers on the night, but it was Wa'Mere Murphy who stole the show by hitting four trifectas on his way to a game-high 27 points.
Murphy's first make from outside the arc ended a 14-6 opening quarter run which put the Tigers up 17-9.
After a Brandywine three to kick-start the second quarter, AI put the game away with a decisive 18-4 sprint to end the second quarter, mixing outside shots from Murphy and Braxton Watson with driving layups from Dakeem Fletcher-Seeney and Jahmere Anderson. The Tigers led 35-16 at the break.
No. 11 Brandywine was never able to mount a serious threat the rest of the way, only briefly cutting the deficit to 15 on a Herbert Brown basket and foul, but it was not enough.
Fletcher-Seeney scored 13 points while Raekwon Wilson netted 11 for AI, who advance to face No. 3 Hodgson Tuesday night at 6:30 at Salesianum.
Seth Hackett scored 17 points for Brandywine (15-6).
