Blue Hens' Hagins named CAA's top defensive player

Delaware senior forward Jamelle Hagins was named the CAA's Defensive Player of the Year along with earning second-team honors on a busy night for the Hens at the CAA Awards Banquet in Richmond, Virginia Friday night.

Hagins, the school's all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker, is one of nine currently-active NCAA Division I players with both 1,000 points and rebounds in his career. He leads the CAA with 2.4 blocks per contest.

Junior Guard Devon Saddler earned All-CAA 1st-team plaudits after averaging a league high 20.2 points per game during the regular season. Saddler joins Harding Nana (2004-2005 and 2005-2006) and Marc Egerson (2008-2009) as Blue Hens named to the top squad since Delaware joined the conference 12 years ago. Saddler is 3rd in Delaware history with 1,641 points.

Other award winners for Delaware on Friday night included Jarvis Threatt being named to the 3rd team, while Kyle Anderson was named 1st team All-Academic thanks to a 3.29 GPA as a health and physical education major. Glasgow High School alum Will Townsville was named 3rd team All-Academic.

Delaware opens CAA Tournament play Saturday at 6pm against Hofstra.
