VIDEO: St. Elizabeth edges Ursuline to advance to finals
St. Elizabeth's Sabrina Hackendorn hit a go-ahead layup with 38 seconds remaining as the Vikings withstood a huge night from Ursuline's Adrianna Hahn in a 46-44 victory in the DIAA Girls' Basketball Semifinals Saturday night.
The Vikings led by as many as 9 early in the second quarter, but suddenly found themselves down for the first time in the game when Hahn hit a driving layup to make the score 39-38 with 6:04 remaining in the contest.
There would be three more ties, at 40, 42, and 44 as Hahn kept making shots for Ursuline from all angles while Macy Robinson hit a pair a shots along with a layup my Alex Thomas.
After Hahn's jumpter made it 44-44 with 57 seconds remaining, St. Elizabeth brought the ball up court, and set up a play on the left baseline where Macy Robinson drew the central back-row defender, firing a perfect bounce pass into the paint for Hackendor who calmly sunk the basked to put St. E up 2.
Ursuline (16-6) would get two more chances, but missed a three-pointer with 23 seconds left, and a last season heave at the buzzer came up short. The loss ended the Raiders hopes of winning a second straight state title.
