PSC eyes Delmarva Power rate request

Delaware regulators are considering Delmarva Power's request to approve a $42 million rate hike for electricity users.

The utility says the proposed base rate increase reflects rising costs for providing electrical service.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) was to meet Tuesday afternoon in Dover to consider a proposed order opening a docket to consider Delmarva's rate request.

A group of state lawmakers and advocacy organizations planned a rally Tuesday morning in Wilmington to speak out against Delmarva rate request. WDEL will be there.

If the request is approved, a Delmarva Power residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month would pay an additional $7.63 a month. That represents about a 5.4 percent increase.

Delmarva has said it will implement an interim $2.5 million rate increase effective June 1 while regulators review the full revenue request.
