Bottom of lineup sparks Rocks' win
Kenny Swab and Tim Ferguson combined for five hits and 4 RBI in Wilmington's 6-2 victory over Carolina Wednesday.
The 8 and 9 hitters in Vance Wilson's lineup in a game that started at 10:35am started their damage in the 2nd inning when Ferguson's 2-out RBI single tied the game at 1.
Swab then sparked a 3-run, 6th inning rally with an RBI single off of Mudcats' starter Jacob Lee.
Murray Watts then scored on a Lee wild pitch, and Geulin Beltre added an RBI groundout to put Wilmington ahead 4-1.
After Carolina cut the lead to two in the top of the 8th, the Swab-Ferguson combination worked again as Swab tripled home Watts who had walked, and then Ferguson followed with an RBI single to end the scoring.
Aaron Brooks allowed 3 hits and 1 run in 5 innings, but did not earn a decision. Spencer Patton (1-0) earned the win with 3 innings of relief. Both hurlers struck out five.
Wilmington begins an 8-game, 2-city road trip Thursday in Winston-Salem.
