Owners call in pet trapper to catch missing dachsund

A Newark family is sparing no expense to track down its missing dachsund.

WDEL's Mellany Armstrong reports.

"He is a family member."

Donna Watson says Rudy is like a child to her and her husband, John Ohnstad.

"If it were your child, and you had confirmation that they were still out there lost, wouldn't you not do everything you could to bring them in," she said.

Pet trackers have confirmed sightings of Rudy, who's been running around for 15 months.

Watson has now hired Steve Dobbie, a pet trapper from California, to try to catch him.

"He has a real passion for this, and a real knack for it," Watson said.

How much has she spent?

"Oh, golly. Thousands. Tens of thousands of dollars, easily," she said.

In the process of looking, 19 other dachsunds have been found. Two of those rescues, Max and Willie, are now waiting at home for Rudy.

"He left as an only child, he'll return with two little brothers," she said.
