Superintendent: Alert during school day wasn't necessary after gun found at PS duPont
Many parents of kids who attend P.S. duPont Middle School are wondering why they weren't quickly notified about an unloaded handgun being discovered in a student's backpack Thursday morning.
Brandywine School District superintendent Mark Holodick tells WDEL's Afternoon News the situation was well under control and didn't require the principal to send out an alert during the day.
"If we don't go into lockdown or there is no immediate threat to students, etc., we're not going to send an AlertNow home during the school day because of course that has the potential to cause a great deal of angst and stress amongst families when a situation is already resolved," Holodick says.
Holodick, who was in Dover at the time of the incident, says parents were alerted in the early evening hours of the discovery.
